5 Months!

It's so hard to believe that Abigail is 5 months old already! She seems to change by the week and is constantly surprising us with her new movements, sounds, expressions, and personality traits. It's so fun to see her grow seemingly overnight! She's still such a happy and calm little girl (unless she is overtired, then you'd better watch out!). Abby still loves bath time and has recently started splashing around, just kicking her legs and waving her arms and having a blast. She never minds getting her hair washed or when water gets in her face. We seem to have made it through the dreaded 4 month sleep regression and she is back to sleeping 10-11 hours straight most nights - but of course there are a few nights here and there where she will have a random 3am wake up. She always eats and goes right back to sleep until morning though, so that's nice! I'm working hard to try to get Abby on some sort of predictable nap schedule, but it's been rough going on that front. At least she sleeps well at night, and for that I am so grateful! Most days Abby still takes 3 or sometimes 4 naps, but they're usually only about 45 minutes. The days when she takes two longer naps, one morning and one afternoon, are usually her happiest days...but for some reason I can't get her to do that on a consistent basis. Hopefully as she gets older she will start to condense her short naps into two longer ones! Abby is still being exclusively breastfed, but we have plans to start solid foods next month. It will be interesting to see what she thinks of food after being on a liquid diet for so long! She gets a bottle of pumped milk before bed, and Dave and I take turns putting her to bed every night. In so many ways, I am ready to stop nursing and go to pumping and bottle feeding only. Yet I know that exclusively pumping would be so much more work in the end, so for now the plan is to keep nursing and feeding Abby one pumped bottle before bed. My goal is to breastfeed for one full year! I plan to write a post about our breastfeeding journey soon! Here are a couple cute pics of Lil Miss:

Lately...

Abby is getting bigger by the day, it seems! She's trying hard to learn how to sit on her own. She had completely mastered rolling from her tummy to her back, but lately refuses to do it at all. I'm hoping she's just putting that skill on the back burner while she tackles more important things (like sitting!). She seems to show an interest in rolling from back to tummy, but can't quite get there yet. She is more aware of everything going on around her and becomes very distracted during nursing sessions if I talk at all or the TV is on. Abby is also much more aware of our cat, Kirby! She's no longer swaddled while sleeping and is back to sleeping around 11 hours straight at night, which has been wonderful! I can't believe that she will already be 5 months old this month!
